That would be crazy if they got either of those guys .... but saw some reports this morning that said he is staying put. Both Monson and Materi said so. Another mediocore year lies ahead.

Apparently this is coming from more than just Gopherhole.

Mark Rosen has reported that the vultures were circling and the fact that the Gophers only drew 2600 drew from the NIT 1st Round game supposedly ticked off many at the U because men's hoops is their cash cow.

Attendance and money talk -- and it's been down about 2500 a game from when Monson took over the program.

I think a buyout is likely what will happen -- but Maturi is a bit of an idiot as well and may sit on him another year. If he does that, the attendance will truly be in the tank.

They even had a small news conference. Apparently something came out that a Minnesota coach was going to possibly interview for the Idaho job(I believe where Monson went to school). Anyway, it may be one of his assisstants, but not Monson .... which everyone was assuming. So everything was reported wrong according to Maturi and Monson.

Your comment about Majerus earlier ... was there anything to that or just speculation? I'd love him here. He has been on with Barreiro a couple of times right before the tournament and during. Dan even brought it up to him that he would welcome him taking the U job. Of course Rick had nothing but good things to say about Monson .... but it made you think.

Majerus has been connected to the U in past speculation -- I think he has said he would want to coach there. He also was an assistant at Marquette (I think) so he has an Upper Midwest connection through his time there.

I think if he were to take it -- he would likely only coach there for three or four seasons before fully retiring and letting his top assistant take over. Same with Bobby Knight, if for some reason he were to take it, you know Pat Knight would likely come arm in arm with him.
