GM Search Update
I just talked to two high-level Wolves officials.
Very interesting stuff.
I've been told to not believe anything I've heard and that it's almost all off-base, starting with Kahn being offered the job.
In fact, I think it's safe to say Kahn is not their choice.
Chris Wright alone has received over 1,200 emails asking them to hire Simmons as GM. However, they are not going to hire him (or even interview him).
They will probably reach out to him in another manner after announcing the new GM.
They view him as a comic with a shallow understanding of how things "really work".
They are not going after a Gray Beard (somebody who has been around forever and has a long track record).
It sounded like they knew what was going to happen, and it's only a matter of time before it's announced.
That's what I got.

Please!!!
Please do not get my hope up that they might actually know what they are doing and all this BS with Kahn is just a smoke screen. If you tell me this and then they hire THE KAHNMAN I may never inhabit a wolves forum or buy another window sticker, bumper sticker, or hat because I will be gone.
(please let this be true and they hire somebody wonderful. . .)

When I said I heard that Kahn's wife was holding up the deal, I was basically told to not even think about Kahn. Non-factor.
We'll see if that's true.

sweet jesus. please prove the internet rumors wrong.
and at the same time, until i see it, part of me still sees this as fluff, similar to the crap that i get when i email the wolves.
12k simmons' emails is fantastic. if they do ANYTHING to contact him and bring him in (not for a position, but anything), its a good move and will lead to some pub.

Please tell me it is Lance Blanks and he is hiring Mike Budenholzer as the coach. *fingers crossed*

My gut from the conversation is that there is somebody nobody is talking about.
Let's just hope it's not Rob Babcock.
Or, Kevin McHale.

I'm honestly not paying much mind to any of this, I'm just going to wait and complain/rejoice when the sign whoever.

The wiser course. The one that would allow me to study pharmacology undistracted.
Probably that last part is why I can't seem to follow through on it.

First off, the bolded part is totally implausible. Are there 12,000 Timberwolves fans left who care enough to write?
Sniff..... Maybe it's true!
Secondly, I wrote an e-mail that *didn't* ask for Simmons to be interviewed, and the team still responded, intelligently, between yesterday at maybe 5:30 and this morning. That alone does seem to suggest that there's some interest in being responsive to the fans. That alone is reassuring.
And finally, it would be so *smart* of the team to "reach out" to Simmons in a way that used the whole thing in a fun way. My e-mail to them was about how out-of-touch the franchise is with stuff like that. They should have Simmons at the press conference, if they can. I'd totally do that.
You made my morning, Fox 9 Guy. Seriously -- this has me feeling positive enough that I'm not going to read or post any more, just 'cause I'd like to leave things that way for a while. Many thanks.

We will see what happens. I'm sure there are lots of rumors out there and in most cases it just benefits the Wolves as it makes them look like they are doing something.
I'm not on pins and needles on this one. I suspect it will be Hoiberg or Stack until solid evidence comes forward that they really are looking to change the country club atmosphere.

Thx FOX 9 Guy! This info + Jerry's latest makes things look a little brighter.
Kestrel, what did the Wolves say in their response e-mail?
Re: 12,000 e-mails, remember that Simmons has a huge national audience. A bunch of those e-mails were probably non-Wolves fans.
And so the waiting continues...

Cant wait.
I just hope whomever they hire has a nice short name. That way when everyone is ripping on them in a year it will be quicker typing.

Your wish is granted.
According to Britt, Tom Penn from the Blazers might be our guy.
Sounds good to me.

Sounds like its another combo platter: Penn/Hoiberg. I'm ok with that.

Me too. Penn sounds like a cap and finances expert. Which would be a good mesh with Hoiberg as the talent evaluator.

I asked a friend in Portland about him.
"He's a cap guru. If they bring him in it's for that, not his personnel evaluating skills. He's the one who has identified some small trades that got us trade exceptions - for example the one we just got and the one we used to get James Jones."
So it looks like Fred would be the guy. I guess I'm pretty "eh" by it. I like the direction Portland is moving in, and they seem to be a good franchise to try to emulate, but we're looking at their money guy and not someone involved with acquiring players.
