WNBA Draft is Thursday!

The Minnesota Lynx are probably the one basketball team in the state that is set to have a big year if things bounce their was in the draft. The Lynx have put together a loaded roster of talent that can score and run. They have Whalen, Augustus, Wiggins, Anosike, Houston, Hollingsworth, McCants, and Brunson who form a very good core to this team but they now have the 2nd and 3rd players in this draft. Depending on what the Lynx are going to do they need to add another guard which is perfect as the new coach is all about defense and Monica Wright of Virginia makes a ton of sense for the Lynx to form a 3 guard rotation with Whalen and Wiggins. They could also use another center and Jayne Appel could be that player. Hollingsworth showed signs of being a great player in the future as she was the youngest player in the league last season. Appel gives the team another 6'4" center who can really pass the ball. She would make a ton of sense as the backup to Anosike and Hollingsworth because she can get all these scorers the ball from the high post.

Whalen, Augustus, Wiggins, and Houston are very good scorers and they should carry the team. Anosike, Brunson, McCants, and Hollingsworth can really defend and rebound. This team should be great but it will be interesting to see who they add to the roster come Thursday.

I think Appel is a lock with one of the picks.Lynx could use a Center and Appel will be the best one left on the board after Charles is taken #1.Then you pretty much can go BPA with the 3rd pick

As long as the Lynx stay healthy, they should be a playoff team and possible title contender.Whalen and Augustus is a heck of a 1/2 combo along with Wiggins/Houston/Brunson/Anosike and others.

Maybe the lynx will make a trade and add another vet player

Monica Wright with the #2 pick. Best athlete in the draft, great scorer and she was the Defensive Player of the Year.

A 5-11 senior guard, Wright is Virginia's all-time leading scorer with 2,540 points and this past season Wright set the Virginia single-season scoring record with 734 points. She also holds the school record for steals in a game (10) and had a season-high 16 rebounds in one game this year while averaging 6.5 rebounds and 3.6 steals a game this season. In 2009-10, Wright had eight 30-point games and twenty-two 20-point games.

#3 pick was Kelsey Griffin, but we traded her to Connecticut for first and second-round picks next year.

The Lynx worked this day perfectly. I think this team is turning in some awesome drafts and they have an attack plan and are getting the most out of their picks. They were in bigger need of a good guard than they were for a center. Jayne Appel is not only hurt but is not very athletic and in the WNBA I am not sure how good she will be. The Lynx already have Anosike and Hollingsworth at center plus Brunson gives them another PF who can play minutes at center if need be. Now you have a 3 guard rotation of Whalen, Wiggins, and Wright. The SF position is taken by Augustus who is backed up by Hamchétou Maïga-Ba. Brunson and Houston will be the PFs with Anosike and Hollingsworth at center.

The best thing the Lynx did was they gave themselves he chance next season to draft Maya Moore no matter how well they perform which should be well. They have 2 picks in the first 2 rounds of next years draft. That is a ton of power to have in a small league.

Decent chance Connecticut still misses the playoffs next year, putting the pick into the lottery.

I like what the Lynx did today. Not to shabby when you pick up the Nation's top Defender. The trade allows us to possibily have a couple options next year.Hope Conn misses the playoffs and we get a shot at the top pick or it's good trade bait to either move up in the draft or trade the pick(s) for another veteran.

Conn is going young so they may struggle at times.Too bad though,Kelsey Griffin is not a bad looking girl lol

I agree Lone.

I was not blown away by the talent in this draft other than Charles and Wright I am not sure any of the other players will be good enough to make an impact in the league. Some will of course but its not like you can look at the players being selected and say they have the skills needed to dent a lineup.

The Lynx simply dont have the playing time to dish out that they have had in the past. Look at the roster, its so deep that other than Wright I am not sure another 1st round pick would be able to get on the floor. Better to trade the pick and build some chips in the future.
